Pearl River Tower is a clean technology skyscraper under construction at the junction of Jinsui Road/Zhujiang Avenue West, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, China. The tower's architecture and engineering were performed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill with Adrian D. Smith and Gordon Gill as architects. Ground broke on the tower on the 8th of September 2006 and construction is expected to be complete in 2011. It is intended for office use and will be partially occupied by the China National Tobacco Corporation.

Visually, the building is quite nice. It is a rounded slab divided into three roughly equal sections, with visible cross bracing on the narrow ends.

Project Facts:
Completion Year: 2011
Site Area: 10,635m2
Project Area: 214,100 m2
Building Height: 309.60 m
Number of Stories: 71

The project is designed to be one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the world. It weaves together "ten" highly innovative, yet proven, technologies, which work together, in concert, to significantly reduce the amount of energy required to operate the building's infrastructure. These systems will also provide a level of human comfort and indoor air quality beyond what conventional "state-of-the-art" systems are capable of providing. The technologies include: wind turbines, solar collectors, radiant heating and cooling ceilings, double skin curtain wall, under floor ventilation air, daylight harvesting and so on, all of which contribute to the building’s energy efficiency.

Of Pearl River Tower’s accomplishments, many are related to the sustainable design features including:

  • The largest radiant-cooled office building in the world
  • Most energy efficient super-tall building in the world
  • The tower is an example of China’s goal to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent as compared to the level of 2005
TROX China has supplied various air conditioning terminals for the project, such as 2500 variable volume flow controllers (VAV), 6371fire dampers, and 4400 floor diffusers. Now the radiant chilled ceiling components are on delivery. The area of the radiant chilled ceiling
of the project is more than 30,000 m2 with both arc and flat types, and it is the largest radiant chilled ceiling project of TROX GmbH. The curvature of the arc type is not consistent, thus it is very difficult to process. Besides, to keep different chilled ceilings at the same level for perfect visual is also the main focus of our customers. TROX China produces provide perfect goods and wins a high evaluation from customers.

TROX China is honored to provide products for the project. And this will make TROX be more influential as an air component supplier.

The Pearl River Tower is destined to become an international architectural and engineering icon. The building will become an inspiration and a leader in the field of high performance, integrated, sustainable and environmentally responsible design.
