The new headquarters for Macquarie Group, 48-50 Martin Place is an iconic Sydney landmark. The refurbishment carried out in 2013-2014 transforms the historic banking chamber into a state-of-the-art commercial workspace over 11 levels and 25,000m2 NLA, with the target of a 6 Star Green Star Design & As-Built rating.

Many of the internal building features were retained – including ornate columns, downstand beams and cornices – with the air conditioning system having to be accommodated within and sympathetic to these features. Consequently, TROX PKV passive chilled beams were selected to be installed above the perforated metal ceiling rafts to deliver comfortable and efficient cooling. The chilled beams were painted white and semi-exposed, allowing the building occupants to identify the technology.

The chilled beams were complemented with an underfloor air supply system utilizing floor swirl diffusers. Extensive testing was carried out at one of TROX's test facilities in Germany to establish the most appropriate location and operation of the swirl diffusers and chilled beams in combination.

For the trading floor at Level 1 TROX BFD250 underfloor fan coil units were selected to provide the additional cooling requirements for these high demand areas.
